RAW BANANA MUNG DAL DOSA

RAW BANANA MUNG DAL DOSA

Moms are the best, they know how to disguise ingredients which we otherwise as kids would never have touched.  One such recipe is raw banana mung dal dosa/chila which I have been eating since childhood but never could guess until recently that it contained raw banana.

Raw banana mung dal dosa/chila is a healthy and nutritious breakfast dish.  It is both gluten free and vegan.   You can even add grated raw banana/kacha kela to the batter to give some texture to the dosa and incase making for kids it is always best to blend in all the ingredients.

·         Preparation Time    :  3 hrs(Soaking time) + 10 mins
·         Cooking Time            :  45 minutes
·         Serves/makes            :  16 -17 dosas
Ingredients:
·         1 ½ cups yellow mung dal
·         3 tbsp brown rice/rice
·         1 raw banana peeled & chopped
·         3 green chillies
·         ½ inch piece of ginger
·         1/4th cup coriander leaves
·         1 tsp jeera
·         Salt to taste
·         Oil for roasting the dosa

Preparation:

Wash and soak the mung dal and brown rice for 3 hrs.

Method:

Drain excess water from the soaked mung dal and brown rice.

Grind the mung dal, brown rice, raw banana, green chillies, ginger and coriander leaves to a smooth batter with pouring consistency.

Add salt and jeera; mix well.

Heat a griddle/tawa; pour few drops of oil and gently spread it all over the tawa.

Pour a ladleful of the batter on the hot tawa and spread it in circular motion to make a thin dosa.  (These dosa will not be very thin like paper dosa.)

Pour little oil over it and along the edges and cook on medium flame till the dosa turns brown in color and slightly crisp.

Serve immediately with coconut chutney.
